Player name: Eek
Character Name: Dr. Gordon Freeman
Character Canon: Half-Life series.
Canon point: After the events of Half-Life 2

Background: Here.

Abilities: Extensive education in physics and high-level mathematics. Reasonable talents in applied-physics, engineering and improvised weaponry. High intelligence gives him the ability to use any weapon or drive any vehicle after a few moments of familiarization. Excellent marksmanship. Demolitions experience.

His HEV Mark IV hazard suit imparts rechargeable shielding, automatic medical assistance, information about environmental conditions, weapons and armor storage, and speed and strength augmentations.

He himself has no special powers.

Personality: Gordon may be a hero to a lot of people, but there's no denying he's a scientist first. He's the kind of guy that just can't put a puzzle down until he's solved it. He's got a considerable knowledge base and a quick and logical mind, though he occasionally tends to let it stray from the path of logic and into the wild valleys of metaphor and humanism; theoretical physicists tend to do that. They can't help it, really.

When faced with a total impossibility (Like a gaggle of Valkyries or a blast of magic, for instance.) He'll still mentally try to frame them as scientifically plausible. This is just another puzzle for him and doesn't really detract from their mystique; in fact it validates them... if you ask him. That being said, he'll certainly have a lot to puzzle through in Midgard.

Being a physicist also imparts a certain aspect of laziness; he uses his environment to his advantage and thinks outside the box to find the easiest way through a situation whenever he can. For example, he COULD fire on every soldier on a rickety overhanging bridge, ducking into cover, wasting ammo and risking harm to himself and his teammates... or he could just shoot the gas canisters underneith the bridge's supports and trust chemical and gravitational potential energy do the rest. Work smarter, not harder. He's willing to use technology and even magic that he doesn't quite understand, as long as they have a logical method of employ.

Gordon always had trouble communicating with people but not because he is ineloquent or can't speak. On the contrary, he has a tendency to talk over the heads of anyone listening and think three steps ahead of others in the room, which can flatten a conversation quickly and enrage anyone with a high pride-to-IQ quotient. He learned quickly in high school that it's better just to shut up sometimes. While he's a little better at relating to non-scientists now (thanks to Barney Calhoon and the other security guards at the former Black Mesa that forced him in the spirit of friendship to "not be such a damn scientist") he's always going to be a little gruff and socially awkward.
